Our Work
A look at the kinds of assignments our crews take on: news locations, stages, festivals and the control rooms behind them, shown through the scenes and steps involved.
Scenes from location, stage and control room
These images show the settings and steps that make up our work, from rigging a camera position to checking a signal before it goes to air. Each one reflects how a feed is built, not just how it looks.

Camera position at an outdoor stage
Operators set up early to check framing, sightlines and cable runs. A settled position means the shot holds steady once the performance starts and the crowd arrives.

Signal checks in the control area
Before transmission an engineer reviews picture, audio levels and link status on monitors. Faults found here are far easier to deal with than the same fault during a live window.

Multi-camera switching
A vision mixer cuts between cameras following the running order and cues from the director. Planning the cuts in advance keeps the programme feed clear for viewers.

Uplink truck at a news location
For events outside a studio's reach, a satellite dish carries the picture back to the broadcaster. Alignment and test signals are completed before the live slot begins.

Cabling and rigging on site
Tidy, labelled cable runs make faults quick to trace and keep walkways safe. Our crew walks each venue first and plans routes around audiences and other trades.

Live insert for a news bulletin
A reporter on location, a camera operator and a signal engineer work as one small unit. The gallery receives a steady picture and talkback right up to the cue.
How long we have been doing this work
commonra was founded in 2014 and has supplied broadcast-ready feeds from Shrewsbury for twelve years. Our crews cover news events, concerts and festivals, and our signal and distribution staff handle the link to the broadcaster. We keep the work measured and describe it plainly, so each client knows what to expect from a job.

The kinds of organisations we support
Our clients are people who need a dependable picture on air and have little time to spare. They range from newsrooms to event organisers, and each group asks different things of a crew. Here is how we support each of them, from the gallery to the venue floor.
News programme producers
Teams that need quick-turnaround feeds and live inserts for bulletins, with a crew that works calmly to a hard deadline and stays in contact with the gallery.
Current affairs shows
Programmes that want reliable location coverage and clear communication about timings, so field reports arrive in good order and ready for the studio.
Television production companies
Makers who need switched multi-camera coverage of stages and large events, delivered in a format their editors and control rooms can use without rework.
Concert and festival organisers
Organisers who want their event captured to broadcast standard and sent to partners, with technical planning handled so they can focus on the programme.
Venue operators
Sites that host broadcast crews and want clear advance information about cabling, power and access, along with a team that leaves the space tidy.
Broadcaster control rooms
Engineers who receive our feeds and expect agreed formats, tested routes and a named contact on the day for any technical hand-off.
